Cobwebs

All the worlds cobwebs spun into a line
Couldn't span the silence of a woman's sigh
A thousand men in yellow cabs with lovin' on their minds
Couldn't put the tears back in her eyes
You can lie to a barroom lady
Take a secretary for a ride
You can fool a fancy dancer
But you can't fool, can't fool the woman, inside
Peaceful are the blankets pulled around her head
Wild waves reflect her dreams across the waterbed
These ripples are her lovers, while she sleeps alone
She's not trying to hurt you boy, just tryin' to have a home
You can lie to a barroom lady
Take a secretary for a ride
You can fool a fancy dancer
But you can't fool, can't fool the woman, inside
So who could point a finger at any other man
Who could count the errors, or say where they began
A thousand educations wait just outside the schools
Where people earn diplomas in the art of being fools
You can lie to a barroom lady
Take a secretary for a ride
You can fool a fancy dancer
But you can't fool, can't fool the woman inside
