Pale Blue - Ready to Burn

The meadowlark and the whippoorwill
Sing the earthbound mysteries out across the open fields
I hear it may be over, but that ain't all
There's the time between when the axe has yet to fall

So let me play my old guitar
Till the blues roll away from me
Like ripples on the river of my life
Let me play that old guitar
        Till the campfire's fading
In the pale blue early morning light

Caught in confusion, got the mystery blues
Feeling you'd do something if you only knew what in the world to do
The songbirds seem to pass these things along
They only speak when they're in song

So let me play my old guitar
Till the blues roll away from me
Like ripples on the river of my life
Let me play that old guitar
        Till the campfire's fading
In the pale blue early morning light

Ride in the sunlight, ride in the rain
I run across your love light several times a day
Ride toward the sunset, thoughts turn to love
Then it's you I'm thinkin' of

        So play that old guitar
Till the blues roll away from me
Like ripples on the river of my life
Let me play that old guitar
        Till the campfire's fading
In the pale blue early morning light
