Ready to Burn
©1992 Dakota Sid Clifford

I've heard friends are like a candle, flickering softly in the wind
Every time the flame dies down, I've heard someone's lost a friend
If you're looking for a reason, I could tell you one I've found
A candle left all alone bums out, or else it burns you down

The bridge is getting older now, the wood is brittle and dry
The river down below disappeared, still you stand there askin' why
You got to learn to say goodbye to it all, when you go around the turn
Strike a match, as you go, as you go, the bridge is ready to burn
The bridge is ready to burn

Instrumental..

Don't ask me no more questions, to which I've got no reply
I ain't one to wonder anymore, this time, I won't even try
It hurt me so bad last time. This time, it's time for me to go
I guess I'd have to be the first one to admit,
There's some things I don't need to know

The bridge is getting older now, the wood is brittle and dry
The river down below disappeared, still you stand there askin' why
You got to learn to say goodbye to it all, when you go around the turn
Strike a match, as you go, as you go, the bridge is ready to burn
The bridge is ready to burn
