Wolverine
©1979 Dakota Sid Clifford

She lives in a house with red walls, and tar paper over her head
She washes the dishes every three days and sleeps in a waterbed
She tells me that her friends are all crazy,
she prob'ly tells them the same about me
She waters the grapevine of gossip, and she likes to think that she's free

        That may be so
        I really don't know
But somehow it just makes me feel
Like a wolverine by a frozen stream
        Trapped in jaws of steel

She goes down to the city with her sister,
and they talk about the big time they had
With all of the men in the bus station, and I guess that ain't really so bad
They played all the pinball machines with quarters from sailors with smiles
Then the girls disappeared and the sailors felt weird,
but the good times were nice for awhile

        That may be so
        I really don't know
But somehow it just makes me feel
Like a wolverine by a frozen stream
        Trapped in jaws of steel

She says she ain't much of a drinker, she met her old man at a bar
Sometimes he's a musician, sometimes he's a real star
But most of the time he's just crazy, like most of the people she knows
Most of the time it don't matter, she says that's just how it goes

        That may be so
        I really don't know
But somehow it just makes me feel
Like a wolverine by a frozen stream
        Trapped in jaws of steel
